8-24-20 Strength - Standing Side Body Strengthening with a Balance Challenge!
Functional Strength Training • 44m
Strength Training is important for all of us!
We will again be focusing on the muscles of our side body, but this time we will stay standing. This class will be pushing those balance limits so you may want to grab a chair for extra support. Reaching, stepping, kicking and holding our weight from falling to the side are all different ways to work on the strength of these supportive muscles.
To be as Parkinson's specific as possible, we want to focus more on functional strengthening than on general weights or machines.
We also want to focus more on strengthening the extensor muscles, than the flexors! We also want to incorporate posture, balance and all the good stuff into all the forms of exercise we do. Instead of you trying to figure all of this out, we designed a class just for you!
Remember, safety first! Modify activities as needed! Use support for anything in standing as needed, use the chair to get up and down from the ground, take your time and skip or modify activities if you need it!
Equipment needed:
-Sturdy Chair
-Yoga Mat!
-Hand Towel
-Light Hand Weights (1-3lbs) or something similar from around the house!
-Water bottle!
-A great attitude
-Hard work ;)
