PWR! Moves

25 Seasons

The PWR! Moves are amplitude based functional exercises focusing on essential skills to improve how you feel and move! Our full length PWR! Moves classes are 1 hour long. We have a pretty consistent format of starting in sitting, moving up into standing and then getting down on the floor. All of these positions are important to exercise in, even for people who are recently diagnosed! For example, with the sitting position, we spend a decent amount of time sitting each day, so we want to be as flexible as mobile as possible there! It is pretty straightforward why it is important to exercise in standing, being up on our feet is how we move through the world! The floor positions: on our stomach, all 4s and on our back are extremely important positions to exercise in. They allow us to challenge ourselves, to work on strength, balance, and flexibility, in a safe way. Most people with Parkinson's experience a change in their mobility, our goal through these classes is to improve mobility if you have noticed a change, or to prevent any decline for someone who hasn't noticed a change!

Depending on your current fitness level, you might find this class to be a moderate or high intensity class. For most of our in person members at Rogue, this is a moderate intensity class. Most people report feeling much better after this class! They report they are less stiff, can move easier and feel invigorated! If you are just getting started with exercise or are experiencing more symptoms from Parkinson's, you might find this class very challenging. I encourage you to stick with it, consistent practice with these exercises will help you feel better and will improve your functional mobility for all the things we do everyday: get in and out of bed, get dressed, get in and out of the car, stand up from a chair, etc!
